What does a Shopify direct mail campaign cost? Interactive calculator

A campaign’s cost is one multiplication with no fine print: cards × the flat per-card rate for the size you chose — the same rate on every plan. Printing and postage are in the rate. This page holds the current numbers and a calculator that runs the whole send — cost, expected response, and the breakeven rate that tells you whether to mail at all.

The rates

Two formats, priced per card by plan. The 4×6 is the classic postcard; the 6×9 is the same 2:3 shape with more than double the canvas — your design simply prints larger.

Run your send

Pick your plan and size, then type the audience. The response-rate field is the honest unknown — own-customer mail commonly lands 2–6%, warm segments at the top. The calculator shows the breakeven rate for your exact card and order value, so you know the bar before you print.

Breakeven response at this size and plan: 3.33% — every response above that is profit. Printing and postage included; the send holds for 24 hours and cancels free.

Reading the result

The number that decides go or no-go is the breakeven response rate: card rate ÷ average order value. A $1.50 card against a $45 order breaks even at 3.3%; the same audience with a $120 order breaks even at 1.25%, and the 6×9’s higher rate moves the bar accordingly. If your realistic response estimate clears the bar with room to spare, size up the audience; if it doesn’t, narrow to a warmer segment rather than mailing hope.

Two safety nets apply to every send: the campaign holds for 24 hours and cancels free, and your monthly spend cap is a hard ceiling nothing may pass — a send that would cross it simply refuses to schedule.

Common questions

What is included in the per-card price?

Everything: printing, First-Class postage, and delivery. There are no minimums, no setup fees, and no separate postage line. The only other number that exists is your monthly spend cap, which you set yourself and nothing may exceed.

When is the 6×9 worth the extra cost?

When the send is competing for attention — win-back campaigns, product launches, high-value audiences. The 6×9 has more than double the surface and physically dominates a mailbox stack. For a warm thank-you to recent customers, the 4×6 usually earns the same response at two-thirds the price.

Is the card rate different on paid plans?

No — every plan pays the same flat per-card rate, printing and postage included. Paid plans buy features, not card-price arithmetic: Growth unlocks unlimited campaigns, discount offers and the template library; Autopilot adds personalization and the measurement holdout. Starter includes one free campaign of up to 50 cards.

What if I schedule a campaign and change my mind?

Every campaign holds for 24 hours before anything prints, and cancelling inside that window is free — no cards exist yet, so there is nothing to refund.
